Council Notes

At October’s Town Hall meeting we discussed the future of the SLFC as it relates to membership growth.

Our Community has always had a stable or growing and vibrant membership. But with a large portion of our members over age 60 and many having already served the community in a variety of volunteer capacities, we must focus on strengthening and growing our membership. Since October, Council has discussed the issue and what actions to take in response. We have identified several steps to initiate immediately and others we’ll continue to discuss and plan for as future options. We welcome your comments and involvement in this endeavor at either Council meetings or by contacting one of the Council members.

Near Term Actions:
1.
Promote existence of SLFC and its Sunday Mass

a. The Retirement Community sign at the corner of Clyo and Franklin now lists our Sunday Mass and time

b. Advertisement of SLFC’s Christmas Schedule in CB Times

2. Finalize the SLFC’s “Get Acquainted” brochure which will be given to visitors at Mass. The brochure is almost complete.

3. In January, we’ll have the opportunity to listen to Bill Roberts, from UD, lead a presentation and discussion of “Who We Are As Church”

4. Create a Follow Up community to contact visitors to our Mass to see if they have interest in joining our community or families of children who were baptized here. The committee will also decide how to best welcome new members into our community. In the past new member Welcome Dinners were held.

5. Review membership folders maintained in the church office to see if individuals previously registered, but not currently active, could be invited to the SLFC.

6. Establish a Marketing Committee to determine strategies to attract new members to SLFC while stressing our Franciscan values.

Future Term Considerations:
1.
Continue to evaluate whether providing baby sitting during Sunday Mass is a realistic option.

2. Evaluate forming groups for singles and widowed members

3. Expanding our web site
